Laki-laki yang selalu meletakkan dompet di saku belakangnya adalah kelompok yang paling berisiko terkena kondisi ini.
Ahli fisioterapi menuturkan adanya lonjakan jumlah laki-laki yang menderita atau mengeluhkan sakit punggung bagian bawah, dan diduga posisi dompet menjadi penyebab utama kondisi ini. “Saat ini semakin banyak pasien saya yang datang ke klinik dengan keluhan seperti itu. Kondisi ini dipicu oleh posisi dompet yang menekan saraf di belakang tubuh dan seiring waktu bisa menyebabkan linu panggul,” ujar Julian Forth, seorang fisioterapis di Buckhurst Hill, Essex, seperti dikutip dari BBCNews, Senin (14/3/2011).
Forth mengungkapkan dompet tersebut akan menekan saraf-saraf di tubuh baik pada saat orang mengemudi atau ketika duduk di tempat kerja. Kondisi ini juga bisa mengakibatkan rasa sakit atau mati rasa pada pergelangan kaki, kaki bagian bawah dan menimbulkan rasa sakit saat berjalan, duduk atau berbaring. Jika seseorang meletakkan dompet di saku belakang, maka akan menimbulkan ketidakseimbangan yang secara tidak sadar melibatkan otot, tulang dan yang paling penting adalah sistem saraf. Ketidakseimbangan ini membuat seseorang duduk cenderung miring dan mencoba untuk tetap menjaga keseimbangan yang berpusat pada panggul.


Kondisi ini kemungkinan melibatkan satu atau dua kurva kompensasi dari tulang belakang yang membuat posisinya menjadi tidak sejajar. Secara tidak sadar hal ini akan membuat bahu menjadi merosot.
